The album received positive reviews from critics, who praised Madlib's creativity and versatility. Pitchfork gave the album a 6.8 out of 10, stating that "Madlib has crafted an impressive debut that pays homage to the past while looking forward to the future". Exclaim! called the album "a refreshing and innovative take on jazz that defies categorization". AllMusic gave the album four stars out of five, describing it as "a fascinating and enjoyable listen that reveals new layers with each spin".

The album also gained popularity among fans of hip hop and jazz, as well as viewers of Adult Swim, a late-night programming block on Cartoon Network. Several tracks from the album were used as background music for the channel's commercial bumpers, creating a distinctive and memorable sound for the network. Some of the tracks that were featured on Adult Swim include "Sun Goddess", "Daylight", "Paladium", "Life's Angles", "Little Girl (Dakota's Song)", and "Keeper of My Soul".

The album also spawned several spin-offs and collaborations, such as Stevie (2004), a tribute to Stevie Wonder, and Shades of Blue (2003), a remix of Blue Note Records classics. Yesterdays New Quintet also expanded into Yesterdays Universe, a collective of musicians and producers inspired by Madlib's vision. Yesterdays New Quintet is one of the most influential and innovative projects in modern jazz, and Angles Without Edges is a testament to Madlib's genius and creativity.
