[S1E12] School Dance

The school dance committee this year is using a personality quiz to partner people up with the same interests. Two people from the committee come to Zoey's class to talk about it and how it benefits them. So that he can get to dance with Zoey, Chase tricks her into giving him her answers to the quiz. However, his plan backfires when another guy called Glen also gets matched up with Zoey. They both need to agree about who will dance with Zoey or neither of them will.

Meanwhile, Elena gets a phone call from a stranger. Elena realizes who he is (the man she hit with her car) and drives away when she spots him across the street. She informs Stefan about the phone call and Stefan gives her the Gilbert watch explaining her how it works. Anna finds Jeremy at the Grill and he thanks her for her help regarding his history paper. Anna keeps talking about vampires, but Jeremy still doesn't believe in the stories and tries to get away. Anna tries to ask him out but Jeremy leaves for the school dance. She later goes to the school dance herself and finds him, asking him for Johnathan's journal. Jeremy says that he lent it to Alaric, something that makes Anna upset and her face change, revealing she is a vampire. Jeremy notices but she tells him it's nothing and she walks away.

While Elena is getting ready for the dance, the watch is activated meaning that a vampire is close. Elena freaks out and calls Stefan immediately. Damon answers letting her know that Stefan is on his way, but he forgot his cell. Elena calms down thinking that the watch was activated because of Stefan but she gets attacked by Noah. Stefan gets there in time and saves her with Noah running away.

Damon joins Stefan and Elena trying to find out what Noah wanted. Damon suggests using Elena as bait at the dance to find him before he comes back at the house. Elena agrees and they all leave for the dance. Elena catches up with Bonnie and Caroline and then the two girls leave the dance because they are not having fun and go to the Grill.

Back at the dance, Elena and Stefan keep dancing while Alaric approaches Damon and introduces himself. He starts asking questions until Damon gets suspicious and Alaric backs off. In the meantime, Noah got into the dance and Anna spies him. They seem to know each other while she warns him to stay away from Elena since she is not Katherine and the Salvatores are with her. Noah doesn't hear her and continues his play with Elena. Anna tells him that she didn't get the journal yet, but she knows where it is. Elena finally spots Noah and tells Stefan who goes after him, but Stefan is following the wrong guy since Noah gave his hoodie to a teenage boy. He realizes that he was tricked to leave Elena alone and runs back to her. Meanwhile, Noah calls Elena and asks her to exit through the side door, otherwise he'll kill Jeremy, so Elena follows his instructions. She tries to run away but Noah catches up to her in the cafeteria. The two of them struggle and the moment he is about to bite her, Stefan and Damon arrive.

This week, we meet Ben. He's a bartender at the town's main restuarant that flirts with Bonnie. He's also a former student from the high school and seems like a nice guy, but come on. This is Mystic Falls. Of course he ends up being more than just a nice guy. At the end of the episode, we get dealt a major shock:

Ben is working with Anna (the girl who helped Jeremy study last week) to get into the tomb because... they're both vampires! So was Noah, the hooded sweatshirt dude that Elena ran into on the street to close 2009. But Damon and Stefan took care of him (via a stake through the chest) at the school dance.

As for Alaric? He tried too hard to get to know Damon at the dance, raising that vampire's suspicions. Later, Damon tried to hypnotize Alaric in order to learn more about him, but the history teacher was ready for it. Holding vervain (unbeknownst to Damon, of course), he innocently answered all inquiries about his life. But viewers learned a major one near the end of the episode:

Cordelia spies Willow in the hall and rushes right over. Love that outfit! Our favorite doormat asks what Cordy wants. Cordelia asks her to help hook up the sound system at The Bronze for the dance. After agreeing to meet up at the A/V room, Willow sees Xander tossing a tennis ball at the chalkboard in an empty classroom, and asks how it went with Buffy. On a scale of one to ten? It sucked. Brightening, Xander proposes that he and Willow can pair up instead. But she isn't interested in playing Rebound Girl, and chides him for even suggesting it. She leaves Xander alone, with his ball.

Giles busts out the weapons, declaring that he will face the Master himself. Buffy (who just showed up) disagrees. She's geared for war: a leather jacket thrown over her prom dress. Giles and Buffy bicker a bit, and determine that neither will give in. Buffy cold-cocks him. Timber! Miss Calendar rushes to attend to the woozy librarian, and Buffy puts her cross back on. She exits the school and sees the A.O. on the lawn. He wahs for help, but she says to skip the games. He takes her by the hand and leads her away. Willow rushes to the library with Xander in tow. It turns out that Willow picked up on Buffy's 'Once more into the breach' tone. Xander knows just the person to help.

Miss Calender perceptively asks where the Hellmouth is supposed to open. They conclude the most likely candidate is the Bronze, given the dance tonight. Willow and Jenny go to warn everyone. Outside, Miss Calendar fumbles with her car keys and notices they're surrounded by a bunch of vamps advancing towards them George A. Romero-style. Tires squeal behind them; it's Cordelia in her Beamer, urgently telling them to get in. Cordelia drives right into the school, leaving a rather large hole in the wall, and parks outside the library. Well, they generally walk there, but okay. Giles hears the ruckus (wuh duh fuh...?) and gets up to see the girls rush inside and barricade the doors. Giles wonders why they vamps are coming here. In the foreground, we get an answer, as a large three-headed snake demon rises from the floor. Giles breathes, "The Hellmouth." Only he does so in a demonologically fascinated way that seems scary and wrong.

After her instincts of wanting to be eaten cease, Haru apologizes to Legoshi for ruining the mood. They return to school, where Juno corners Haru and, after finding out they didn't have sex, challenges her for Legoshi's heart.

Legoshi is confined to the school's infirmary to treat his wounds. The housemother scolds Legoshi's actions and says she would have reported him to the school faculty if he returned 30 minutes later. Legoshi pleads to report Haru's kidnapping by the Shishigumi, but the housemother is more concerned of him spending the night with Haru. The two are interrupted by Juno's visit as she requests to privately talk with Legoshi. Juno approaches him and is awed of how Legoshi is now seen as a hero but Legoshi moves away from her advances. Recalling what he told her about how it's soothing when one animal makes contact with the same species, Juno claims this is what he needs and consents for him to hold her. But Legoshi sees no need as he surprisingly feels relaxed, leaving Juno to think that Legoshi may have already made love with Haru. When Juno exits the infirmary, she finally meets the rabbit in question. Juno politely excuses herself out of the way, assuming Haru plans to visit Legoshi. Haru nervously claims she has no business here and walks away. However, Juno trails her and Haru, sensing this, begins to run away from her until Juno grabs her hand at a staircase. Juno confronts Haru, questioning her if Haru believes she makes Legoshi happy. Haru scolds the female wolf for her forwardness and demands respect as she reveals herself as a senior. Juno apologizes and politely asks Haru if she really was the rabbit involved. Haru confirms and mocks Juno that she'll be able to make Legoshi happy while passing onto him that Juno is attracted to Legoshi as well with a smug look. Juno stands next to her and begins sniffing Haru's body, while Haru grows nervous. Juno concludes that Legoshi never had sex with Haru, leaving her able to compete for Legoshi's affection and is confident she'll defeat Haru tonight at the Meteor Festival. 041b061a72
